    Be a part of it.

Jump$tart Washington is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to promote the personal financial literacy of Washingtonians, with our primary emphasis on youth. Jump$tart brought Money Smart Week (MSW) to Washington in 2010. They highlight events related to financial education that take place that week.  This year’s MSW will be April 21-28, 2012  MSW was started by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.http://www.chicagofed.org/webpages/education/msw/index.cfm Last year, the American Library Association began encouraging libraries to participate as well. The MSW team in Chicago does the Website, calendar, and partner tool-kit for each state. This could be a great way to get information out about your projects in the whole state.  Washington’s 2012 tool-kit and marketing materials are available now:http://chicagofed.org/webpages/education/msw/washington/index.cfm

Think of where in your community you could host/sponsor events: Community Centers, Senior Centers, Schools, Children’s’ school libraries, book stores (especially for Reading Day events)
Involve other organizations: ex. PTSA, Rotary, Kiwanis, Beta Alpha Psi (college CPA group), and Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) on college campuses, high school DECA groups, FCCLA, Starbucks, and Amazon
Focus on a niche group: ex. fraud for seniors, women, ID theft, end of life preparation, Webinars to reach the homebound or those living in remote areas, international district/minority populations who may need more specific/culturally aware outreach & materials, Purdy Women’s Prison.
Bring in new/different speakers: ex. police officer on ID theft, SCORE Retired Executives http://www.score.org/

Here are some suggested events that Jumpstart would like to see happen this year.
Flash mob, end of life preparation at a cemetery/mortuary, fashion show “dressing on a dime” partnering with local consignment shops, a prize for kids who bring their parents (Penny the Pig), a week of events in a single location with different speakers/topics/niche focus, Financial Football/Soccer at schools, giant dollar cut-out pictures, Ben Franklin meet-n-greets (Ben Franklin Reading Days, track Ben online map as he visits schools across the state, Ben does FinEd days at elementary schools/classes for 10-15 minutes with photos the classes can post to Facebook).

You can learn more about the National Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy at www.jumpstart.org.
Let me know if you sign up for an event with MONEY SMART week.
